Q&A: Is there a book that can teach one how a computer works?

Question:

Is there a book that can teach one how a computer works?

I’m pretty good with computers, and I absolutely love technology, but I have always wanted to know how computers work inside and out. I want to know in so much detail that I can build my own computer with all of the information in the book, but since I am not an expert, I want it to be written in more-or-less English (not literally). Is there a book or series of books that can quench my hunger for knowledge?

Computer – is a very vast subject. You’ll find the books/links/blogs in almost all the areas.
Just visit a good library that contains a technical stuff and you’ll get a book of your own interest.
Make some Googling and you’ll get tons of info.

If you specify what exactly you are looking for, then perhaps I (or someone else) would help you precisely.

Good Luck !

I would tell them Mr. Millie must be very bored to post such a stupid question in the home theater ELECTRONICS forum, where the discussions are centered around technical home theater system and TV operational and electronics questions. Take your juvenile crap elsewhere, please.

I just burned all my files in to a blank CD and i made sure before i ejected it it’s completely formatted and readable. But still, my computer wont read it and other computers can. I tried some of my burnt CD and they all worked. I don’t know what’s wrong with this one CD.

I have had similar problems before, I am a 10 year tech and there is no reason. The only thing I can figure out is that certain brands of disc’s and burns just don’t work well with each other.

is it possible to change video cards on an all in one computer?

Question:

is it possible to change video cards on an all in one computer?

someone bought me one and i like it (its a Dell XPS ONE) and my only problem with it is the video card doesn’t exactly hold up to well when I’m playing some games i don’t have very much experience with this kind of stuff so don’t blame me for not knowing

Best answer:

Answer by guy with questions
Typically, these systems are manufactured with laptop motherboards. Changing the video card is not able to be done. They normally build the graphics in to the motherboard, or there is a custom card for the video made by ATI or Nvidia. Sorry, you might be stuck. I think that ATI is coming out with an external video card solution that will be available shortly. Look at the PC Perspectives website.

You’re going to be a lot better off posting the names of the processes running, then we can tell you which ones are unnecessary.

Consider these specs:

Since you already have a monitor, go for the 8800GTX or Ultra graphics card and E6850 processor. Surely that will be an awesome set up that will play ALL games even at high settings.
