do i need a different copy of vista for each of my computers?

Question:

do i need a different copy of vista for each of my computers?

OK, I’ve got 4 computers in my house, all of them are running windows XP home edition, my friend is giving me a really nice computer and it also has XP home. I want to upgrade all 5 of these computers to vista, but i’m not sure if i can do that with just one copy of it. can i install it on all of them without buying the software 5 times? or do i need more than one code for it or what?

you need to buy 5 copies. Vista isn’t worth it, stay on XP.

Do children in Finland use computers in school before the age of 11?

Question:

Do children in Finland use computers in school before the age of 11?

I’m supposed to write an essay about whether or not computers should be used in the classroom while students are still young. My professor told me that in Finland there’s a policy that only after the age of 11 are computers and technology used at school (although they’re obviously still used at home). However, I can’t find any evidence supporting this. Not one single mention through all my online searches. Any personal input or links to sources would be really appreciated!

I remember using computers at school since starting school at the age of 7. That was in the mid 90s. And I’m pretty sure the policy hasn’t changed. Computers are a absolute necessity and it would be pure madness to decline that fact. I believe Finland would be close to top 1 in the world in using technology for educational purposes.

Find and read the documentation for your Mobo. It will tell you the chipset it uses and memory types it takes in what block units. Just do a search with the motherboard type or computer type and you should get some hits.

Q&A: How do you share 1 printer on 2 computers?

Question:

How do you share 1 printer on 2 computers?

I have a Dell laptop & a desktop. I want to try to share both computers one printer. How do I do this without always having to use the cord to plug in my computer & the other end in my printer. How do I do all this? What all do I need? Can’t I do this using a crossover cable…if so how?

Best answer:

Answer by Colanth
The two computers have to be connected – router or crossover cable doesn’t matter. they have to be in the same workgroup.

Install the printer on one computer. Share it (right click on it/properties/sharing) Wait about 15 minutes. Then, on the other computer, install a new printer – network printer – browse. Look for the printer on the other computer. Select it. You’ll probably have to pur the CD into that computer too, to load the driver for the printer. You’re done.

I have had similar problems before, I am a 10 year tech and there is no reason. The only thing I can figure out is that certain brands of disc’s and burns just don’t work well with each other.

Alright so I was just wondering. I’ve got two computers that use the wireless provided by my router. In the same house and all. Could I make a network where I can access one computer from another? Like to transfer files and stuff? Or do I need ethernet cable and stuff?

VPN but your probably going to find you will need change the way you think in terms of running a program. Instead of running QB at SiteA by connecting to the QB share at SiteB you really need to connect from SiteA to a PC or Terminal Server at SiteB and actually run the program at SiteB with only the screens being sent to SiteA.

Depending on the network speeds, the number of users needing to use the program, etc will determine if you need a Terminal Server or maybe get out on the cheap by using a XP Pro as a single user Terminal Server. You will run the connection over a VPN which is a secure site to site connection where not only is the data encrypted but you are restricting the connection to the other site only. Devices such as Watchgaurd, SonicWall and others are options.

I would HIGHLY recommend not being P2P and instead look at real server options such as SBS. Far to many issues to manage when you have to manage each PC vs. managing everything from a single server.

We can either provide further info and even an assesment ourselves or help you contact a Microsoft Small Business Specialist in your area.
