Slower internet speeds on all but ONE computer, HELP?

Earlier today Comcast came to our house and upgraded our internet from 12 MB/s to 22 mb/s speed. We have a larger house using wifi internet with 3 laptops (2 XP, 1 Win7). Our wifi has always slowed down speeds on the computers. Our laptops were generally getting 3-6 download speed via speedtest.net. Then when we plugged in directly we got full 12 mb/s.

Today we are doing speed tests with the new 22mb/s and only my dad’s win-7 laptop is getting 21mb/s via wifi. Even when right next to the router the other 2 laptops only max out at 6mb/s and can not go any higher. When directly connected they get the full 22mb/s.

My question to you guys is why is it that one computer gets full speed via wifi when the 2 XP computers do not? It really seems like the speed has a cap at 6.35mb/s download, never goes higher on the speed test.

Currently using a Linksys WRT160N Router. When I check the DHCP Client Table it shows that all computers are connected via Wireless-G so it’s not a connection type. I’m baffled.

Is there a specific setting on the XP computers that are capping speed? Any help would be so very much appreciated!

Betcha they have Atheros wiFi cards!

Those guys had a bad habbit of capping at 6 megs.

try a new driver set on one of the XP boxes.

How do you Make Three Computers Use the Same Internet Connection?

I have three computers in the same room but only one of them has an internet conection. I need to creat a network so that all three computer share the internet.

Just buy a router. Hook the modem to the router and then hook the 3 computers to the router and you’re set.

I have four computers in my home, they connect to the internet through a DSL modem and wireless router?

I just recently connected a printer to a print server, and finally figured out how to get each computer to be able to use the printer. However, I still can’t figure out how to view all the computers (in my “workgroup”) from any one of the computers. When I try, it says I may not have permission (I am the administrator) or the list of workgroup computers is currently unavailable. Anyone know anything about this stuff?

What steps do I need to take if I, as a teacher is in need to get internet access on all my classroom computer?

Who would I have to contact or what steps would I need to take if I need internet access on all my 5 computers in my classroom, in order to use textbook links for further enrichment activities for the students? I have internet access on one computer only. Who does this request go to first? How far does this issue need to go for approval?

All of this would depend completely on the school and the district. Talk to your direct supervisor to find out how to do this, and if you are even allowed to do it. There may be reasons why they don’t want internet access on multiple computers in a classroom.

is there a free program where one computer can control the internet of others in one network?

im pretty sure teachers at school that have computers in the room have some type of program like that. is there a free one for personal use? and could it see the screens of all the others too, like a teachers one? if not, what are some of them and how much do they cost?
