do i need a different copy of vista for each of my computers?

Question:

do i need a different copy of vista for each of my computers?

OK, I’ve got 4 computers in my house, all of them are running windows XP home edition, my friend is giving me a really nice computer and it also has XP home. I want to upgrade all 5 of these computers to vista, but i’m not sure if i can do that with just one copy of it. can i install it on all of them without buying the software 5 times? or do i need more than one code for it or what?

Best answer:

Answer by Jason T
you need to buy 5 copies. Vista isn’t worth it, stay on XP.

Number 3 is the best. 2 is the worst.

Really, they all suck considering they all run something called Windows. Its basically a cheap system for new computers so they can run something. It doesnt do much though. I would say get a Mac, or if your stuck on PCs, get something with the Ubuntu system on it.

I need to connect the computers between two locations in different cities. How ??

Question:

I need to connect the computers between two locations in different cities. How ??

All computers are on Windows XP. Both locations are on peer-to-peer networks, no servers per say. I need for one location to have access to quickbooks in a different location.

VPN but your probably going to find you will need change the way you think in terms of running a program. Instead of running QB at SiteA by connecting to the QB share at SiteB you really need to connect from SiteA to a PC or Terminal Server at SiteB and actually run the program at SiteB with only the screens being sent to SiteA.

Depending on the network speeds, the number of users needing to use the program, etc will determine if you need a Terminal Server or maybe get out on the cheap by using a XP Pro as a single user Terminal Server. You will run the connection over a VPN which is a secure site to site connection where not only is the data encrypted but you are restricting the connection to the other site only. Devices such as Watchgaurd, SonicWall and others are options.

I would HIGHLY recommend not being P2P and instead look at real server options such as SBS. Far to many issues to manage when you have to manage each PC vs. managing everything from a single server.

We can either provide further info and even an assesment ourselves or help you contact a Microsoft Small Business Specialist in your area.

You’re going to be a lot better off posting the names of the processes running, then we can tell you which ones are unnecessary.

Need help finding a new MP3 player?

Question:

Need help finding a new MP3 player?

Before I go any further, I do not want an iPod/iPad/iPhone or any Apple products. I do not like using proprietary software such as iTunes. Also, I do not want a smartphone, I do not have the money to waste on data plans. Until smartphones become the standard and data plans are eliminated I have no intention of buying one.

I’m in the market for a new MP3 player, but I cannot find anything that meets my requirements. Previously I had an Archos 5 IMT (without Android) and I liked it. It had almost everything I wanted: large storage capacity, wifi, touchscreen, and somewhat compact. Of course the reliability of the unit was a problem; the touchscreen stopped working properly on the right half of it for the second time. Quite frankly, I don’t want to deal with that again and there are newer products out there.

My main requirements from most important to least are as follows:
60GB+ capacity & portable (sort of a tie)
Android
capacitive touch screen (not too big a deal)

I’ve looked at three of the new Archos tablets, but each one seems to be lacking in some way.
Archos 5 IT (with android)- old, clunky firmware; over a year old technology.

Archos 43 – lacks a decent amount of storage; even with a 32GB microSD card (which will run me another ) inserted I don’t have enough room for all my media files.

Archos 70- HUGE, has a whopping 7″ display, that is by no means portable. I want something that will fit in my pocket.

Unfortunately, each has its pros and cons, but none meet my expectations. Is there any other device out there that meets my requirments. Every company seems to either be chasing the tablet market or ditching storage for flash memory. Nobody (Creative, Phillips, Samsung, Sony, etc.) seems to offer what I want. Thanks

Question:

What requirements would i need for a good/great gaming computer?

As the title says, but like how much hard drive space, ram, processors, operating system ect. all the computery logic stuff. PLEEEAASSSEEE
just saying, im buying, not building.

Best answer:

Answer by Josh N
-8GB or more
-0 processor or more
-more than 0 graphics card
-SSD would be best but a 64mb cache HDD will do fine, any size but you’ll have trouble finding anything less than 750GB with 64mb
-operating system… well either you get windows or your not making a very good gaming computer

-also get a decent case with good airflow and a mid range motherboard.

you can’t buy a gaming computer unless you get an overpriced alienware.

I need help looking for a godo cell phone that suits what I want?

Question:

I need help looking for a godo cell phone that suits what I want?

I would like for the name of a model that suits me. :) This is what I’m looking for in a phone

- Does not need internet to work
- Slide out keyboard for texting!!
- Sorry if this is unclear. Preferably no numbers sticking out in the front. I don’t wish to have dial numbers on the front of the phone
- No Samsungs!!
- Good for texting
- No contracts, though I am with T Mobile and I cannot switch to any other company; so maybe a phone that requires a contract with T Mobile is fine
- Not too expensive
- Can have a touch screen as well, though I don’t really care if it has or doesn’t.
- Not too “out dated”
- Just almost over all good quality

Please help! I seem to not be able to find a good phone that fits my needs :( And I need to find one soon. Thank you all.

TOTAL 4 (it’s a little bit above your budget, but if you can afford to spend that little extra, it’s well worth it)

You can cut down on the cost a little bit by:

dropping the 1 TB drive for a 500 GB one.

dropping the 4 GB of 1600mhz RAM for just 2 GB of 1333mhz RAM
(but you can still add more later, and the speed drop isn’t a big deal anyway)

The CPU, Mobo and graphics card I highly recommend sticking with, but if you want to reduce the prices you can go with the 2 downgrades I mentioned above.
